Find people you like playing with and stay together. Every act I know that breaks has been together for at least four years. There is a lot of toiling to do but that helps you to get tight and separate yourself from the thousands upon thousands of other bands out there.
In the 70s if you were good you could get signed and off on tour you went, playing 100-200 shows a year getting tight on the road.
Now if you are good, you play 2-4 shows a month and it takes years to get that same cohesive experience together. Its the changing of the music business and scene where nothing happens overnight anymore (unless you are pop and willing to sell your soul and become a corporation and not an artist).
Keep at it with the same people..and if its not working move on and find the right people and believe in what you are doing.
